  • What is the Darien DTC? The Darien Democratic Town Committee (DTC) is the official Democratic Party organization in the Town of Darien. We are responsible to the Democratic State Central Committee and state and Federal Election Laws. The DTC is governed by Rules adopted by the DTC. Our Rules are filed with the Secretary of the State, the Democratic State Central Committee and Darien’s Town Clerk. The DTC consists of 25 members who serve two-year terms.

 

  • Are ANDD (Action Network of Darien Democrats) and the Darien DTC (Darien Democratic Town Committee) the same organization or affiliated in any way?
    NO, ANDD is a Political Action Committee  (PAC) The Darien DTC is the official representative in Darien of the State Democratic Party in Connecticut.  The Darien DTC is the only entity in Darien with the ability to find and nominate Democratic candidates who will represent Darien locally and at the state and federal level. 

 

  • What is a PAC?  Political action committees (PACs) are political committees established and administered by corporations, labor unions, membership organizations or trade associations. The general definition is a group that spends money on elections, but is not run by a party or individual candidate. However, PACs can donate money to parties or candidates they support. A PAC is defined as “an organization that raises money privately to influence elections or legislation, especially at the federal level”.

 

  • If I donate money to ANDD will that go towards Darien Democratic candidates?  Not Necessarily. As a political action committee, ANDD is not required to donate money they have raised to Darien candidates or the Darien DTC. 

 

  • If I donate money to the Darien DTC, how will that money be used?
    All money raised by the Darien DTC will be used for the following purposes:
  • elect Democrats to office who will represent Darien
  • encourage qualified Democrats to run for and serve in elected office
  • organize and direct general election campaigns
  • recommend Democrats for appointive offices
  • encourage voters to register as Democrats
  • educate the public on relevant issues
  • study and influence local, state and federal legislation of concern to Darien
  • sponsor and encourage constructive Democratic Party activities
  • raise funds in support of these purposes.
